Hess's mill (formerly, the local Nobleman's Mill [Herrenmühle] was
located in the building complex behind the mill at 2 Steinweg (see
photos). In 1905 Hess's sons had the plant remodelled into one of the
most efficient of its kind in Hesse, with a 120-hp turbine (but it burnt
down in 1923). Herz Hess (1819-1892) owned additional properties
in and around Rotenburg, including the Wüstefeld property and the
former barracks building at 3 Bürgerstrasse. From 1873 until his death
in 1892, Herz Hess was a member of the Rotenburg town council.

Herz Hess in 1878.
