In reference to the first visit Willy Katz made after the war to his birth town, Nentershausen, the following is said:  He went to the inn and there from table to table greeted his former fellow residents who were drinking and playing cards.  He greeted one after the other by name and handshake; he still recognized each one, after all he had not been away for a terribly long time.  It appeared as if he did not recognize one of the card players.  This in spite of the fact that this individual had spent his apprenticeship before the war in his employ.  This individual appeared to be offended or at least so pretended when he asked the visitor if he didn’t recognize him any longer.  To which, the master shoemaker responded he still recognized him; but he was not shaking his hand, since as quoted from Willy Katz “You, at that time (the Night of Broken Crystal), kicked me in the ass”.
