By 1939 all Jewish
commercial enterprises
in Nentershausen had
been closed. The
Craftsmen Trade
Association from Kassel
had sent a
communication to the
master shoemaker, Willy
Katz, “with effective date
of December 31, 1938,
we have removed your
name from our list of
craftsmen”. Reason:
“The order of the decree
of December 11, 1938,
which eliminates Jews
from the German
economy.” (Record in
the municipal archives of
Nentershausen). The
male Jews had to take
on, starting from the
beginning of 1939, the
additional name “Israel”
and the females the
additional name “Sara”.
