The inauguration festivities for the rebuilt Synagogue took place in 1996 in the
presence of many prominent individuals, i.e. the Chairman of the Central Advisory of
Jews in Germany, Ignatz Bubis. With this, the “Hessenpark” is the only Open Air
Museum in Germany that houses a Synagogue. The relatively small, rebuilt house of
worship is to serve as an example of Jewish community life in the towns of Hessen,
prior to the pogroms of the Nazi era.
