Joseph Strauss (*1895) was a
12year old student when he in
1907 together with his parents
and his sisters had moved from
Rothenkirchen to Huenfeld.
After his graduation from Grade
School -eights grade- he started
working in his father’s business.
His father taught him so he
could familiarize himself with
the ways of the trade. When
WWI broke out Joseph was
drafted into the army, and his
father, Abraham had to run the
business all by himself. Joseph
came home from the war
unscathed, and during the
following years the business
expanded and a structure for a
store was added. In addition to
the retail business, which was
in Abraham Strauss’ name,
Joseph Strauss started his own
wholesale business, the Co.
bearing his name.
