On March 10, 1924 Joseph Strauss married the young Lilli Wertheim (*1903), daughter
of Isaac and Frieda Wertheim from Naumburg near Kassel. In Huenfeld three children
were born to the couple: Emilie (*March 23, 1927), Milly by pet name, Alfred (*May
26, 1930), and Gertrud (*November 01, 1934). Their childhood in Huenfeld was over-shadowed by the totalitarian rule of the Nazis and lasted up to the family’s escape in
1939.
