16. The Kaufherr family - butcher shop, Bahnhofsrtrasse 189
Ida Kaufherr née Strauss (*11.11.1889 in Rothenkirchen) was a war widow. Her husband Adolf Kaufherr was killed in action during WWI. The couple had one daughter, Berta (*10.13.1918), who moved to Frankfurt/ Main in May of 1937.
Ida ran a butcher shop and dealt in hides and furs as well. In March of 1938 she, too, moved to Frankfurt/ Main Sandweg 7. Mother and daughter succeeded in getting out of Germany on time. Later on Bertel lived in New York.

17. The Salomon Strauss family - butcher shop, Bahnhofstrasse 189
The butcher Salomon Strauss (*07.26.1896 in Rothenkirchen) was Ida Kaufherr’s née Strauss’ brother. He and Ida together ran the business at Bahnhofstrasse. Salomon Strauss married Frieda Nussbaum (*1904 ) in 1928. Frieda was Julius Nussbaum’s daughter (14). The couple shared the house with Ida Kaufherr. Three of the couple’s children were
born in Huenfeld: Julius (*10.18.1928), Ruth (*03.15.1931) - she was a Guenther by married name-, and Isfried
(*1933). After they had to give up the business in 1936, the family emigrated to New York at the end of November 1937. One more daughter, Sonja, was born in the U.S.A.

18. The Liebmann Braunschweiger family, Niedertor 188
The teacher Liebmann Braunschweiger (*04.04.1881 in Steinbach) and his wife Rosa née Levi (*06.04.1876 in Straussenhaus near Neuwied) lived in the house at the Niedertor which also incorporated the Synagogue. They had three children: Hermann, Klara, and Benno. Liebmann Braunschweiger died in May of 1935 and was buried at the Jewish cemetery in Burghaun. His family managed to emigrate to Palestine.

19. The Siegfried Nussbaum family, Niedertor 188
Siegfried Nussbaum (*01.27.1902) was a partner in his father’s, Julius Nussbaum, business. In Huenfeld he married
Klara Braunschweiger (*10.06.1904), who was Liebmann Braunschweiger’s daughter (18). The couple had two
children: Theo (*06.18.1933), and Judith (*07.18.1934). The family emigrated to Israel and settled in Petah Tiqwa.

20. The Sondheimer family, Hersfelderstrasse
The merchant Nathan Sondheimer (*12.30.1882 in Uttrichshausen) and his wife Lina (*12.04.1885 in Heinebach county of Melsungen) had three children, all of whom were born in Neuhof: Elli (*09.02.1912), Liesel (*10.12.1914), and Ewald (*08.16.1919). The family had moved from Neuhof to Huenfeld in 1929 and rent an apartment from Wilhelm Laufer, in which they lived for about four years. Liesel Sondheimer was a hat maker or milliner, the latter being almost the same as
the former, and in the fall of 1932 she opened up shop at the ”Anger”. In the aftermath of the April 01, 1933 boycott of
the Jewish businesses all over Germany she must have suffered tremendous losses. In May of 1933 she went out of business and moved to Kassel. Together with their son Ewald the Sondheimer couple also moved to Kassel at the same time. Elli moved from Huenfeld to Neuwied in March of 1933. Nothing is known about the further fate of the family.
