Herta Strauss was born in 1921 in
Burghaun. After graduation from 8th
grade she began an apprenticeship
as a seamstress in 1935.
Pretty soon her father couldn’t
afford any longer to pay for her
training, and Herta had to earn her
own money. She was able to find a
job as a maid with a Jewish dentist
in Frankfurt/Main.
In 1938, hardly seventeen years of
age, she fled to New York. For her,
too, the new start in the U.S.A. was
not easy. At this time she lives in
Miami as a widow.
